FileHippo Update Checker: A program that helps you to update programs regularly

Version Tested: 1.032 Beta

Description:  Most people install a lot of software on their PCs for working, entertainment, etc etc. I particularly install a whole bunch of them (CCleaner reports in it’s uninstaller that I have around 230 programs installed on my machine, not counting the portable apps) to write this Freeware blog. So have you ever wondered that most programs don’t automatically check for updates by themselves or get blocked by your firewall? So how can you maintain updates regularly if you don’t have time to visit the publishers’ individual websites?

FileHippo Update Checker is the answer. When you run the program, it scans your computer for software (including freeware and commercial software), and then compares the list to the software database on FileHippo.com. The browser window then opens and shows you what updates you need to install, and the current version, installed version and download links are provided. See the screenshot provided at FileHippo.com for an example.

However, you must keep in mind that not every program on the planet is in the FileHippo.com database, so not every program on your pc can be updated via this method. Another option is to subscribe to email updates on the publisher’s website (for example there is a newsletter on the CCleaner homepage).

Verdict:  This is a great program that has helped me a lot and saved me a lot of time. This is a must-have tool in everyone’s arsenal of pc utilities.

filehippo gives a lot of false recommendations. I used to use it, but I’ve switched now to radarsync for app and driver updates
