MP3Tag: A program which can help you edit mp3 tags in batch and download info from various sites!
Description: Most people nowadays have an ipod or a mp3 player, which can play mp3 files. Mp3 files have a built in “tagging” function called “ID3 v.(version number)” and most players can read these tag information. If you use a CD ripper with no tagging support, then the file will have no tags. So how do we add or edit those tags? Mp3tag is the answer. I have been using it for a few months already, and have not yet encountered any problems, and in my opinion it is much better than any shareware (commercial) or freeware of this kind.
When MP3Tag first opens, you see a neat user interface with the major working window empty. You can then add whole folders of mp3s or just invididual ones. Of course you can multi-select files to load.
If there are too many files in view, you can filter them with the filter box at the bottom of the screen. Then you can select files to edit by highlighting a file then typing in the information at the left of the screen. Alternatively, you can download album information from Amazon, FreeDB, and Discogs. This is a feature that is very well implemented and easy to use. This would be a must-have for people who manage large music libraries.
- tag-to-filename (see screenshot on the right)
- filename-to-tag
- field find-and-replace
- tags from text file
- autonumbering for track field
- playlist creation
- importing (and exporting) cover art to/from file

- exporting tag information of whole albums or individual mp3s to html files (see screenshot)
- Supports ID3v1-ID3v2.4 and APEv2 tags and a plethora of audio formats, including aac, flac, ape, mp3, itunes formats (mp4, m4a, m4b), mp3, ogg, ofr, spx and wma. It can add tags to all formats, but the player you use might not be able to read the files with a non-mp3 extension. For an audio converter, check out Any Audio Converter.
Verdict: This is a very nice program that has helped me a lot, so that I don’t have to manually check cds and enter tags by myself. I previously reviewed a program called Autumn Mp3 Tagger, but it doesn’t support downloading of tag info from online sources, so I gave it an “inferior to another program” tag.
