Thoosje Quick XP Optimizer makes your XP much faster

2009 June 28

Note: OOPS< I did not mean to post this early, the real post is here…

Version Tested: 2.0

Description: When somebody finds their computer is slow (e.g. when playing games or using large resource TQXO screenshotsoftware) and ask me for advice, I would usually tell them to disable startup entries using Starter, clean their computer temp files and registry using CCleaner, and uninstall unused programs using Revo Uninstaller. However, these might not always work. This is a new solution called Thoosje Quick XP Optimizer (onwards called TQXO).

TQXO can make your startup time, software running time, internet surfing time, etc. faster. It apparently edits some unharmful parts of the registry. As I don’t like programs which edit the registry without notifying the user, I used a commercial software previously installed on my PC to monitor changes to the registry while I was using TQXO. Here are some notes I found about this program.

  • How it works: it optimizes Windows XP registry settings (removing limits and “useless checks”) and by removing unnecessary files/clutter from your harddrive. More info here. Quoted from Freeware Genius.
  • There are some check boxes next to the optimization options, you just have to check the ones you like and click optimize to start.
  • Optimization options offered: 1) faster shutdown/restart/booting. (2) faster internet, (3) faster hard drive and processor performance, (4) faster application performance, (5) faster Win XP performance, (6) erasing history and surfing traces, (7) preventing a “list of websites” from installing cookies , (8) cleaning junk files and/or the recycle bin, (9) flushing the DNS cache, and (10) a rudimentary but functional startup folder manager.
  • The list of websites it blocks from cookies is under: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\P3P\History and HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains – there are aboutTQXO Startup manager 3000 unique entries.
  • There is a rudimentary startup manager, but it’s really busted. Better use Starter!
  • Note: “Restoring” means to revert to the factory settings of XP. That said, it would be wise to backup your registry first!

Verdict: TQXO definitely makes internet surfing time quicker, but about the startup time, there are no significant changes. It’s excellent, but to really enhance the startup time, you’d better use Starter to disable startup entries (review link above).TQXO restore

Compatibility: As it’s name suggests, only for Windows XP. There is a free Vista Optimizer too, but as I don’t have a Vista, I can’t check it out. I would sincerely thank those who could test Vista Optimizer for me.
